Hi,
Graphic design should be considered the same as print design, brochure layout, etc. And, Web design is a totally different medium where the “paper size” (the screen resolution) changes for every viewer.

Hi Bilalamjad,
Web and print designing require different set of experiences. Just because a person is a good web designer doesn’t mean he’ll do wonders in the other as well. Try considering the points below before switching from print design to web design:
- Resolution are different (web require low res and print require very high res)
- Image file (Mostly web in gif/ jpeg and print in tiff).
- Fonts (Web require only available font and in print you can sketch customize fonts).
- Usually Photoshop uses for web designing, but print designing require vector base software.

Graphic Design would focus on how to design graphically pleasing layouts. You would learn about color theory, typefaces, the relationship between design elements when placed on a page and just generally how to make things, either printed or displayed in another way, look appealing.
Web Design would require many of the skills of a good graphic designer but also, you’d need to learn how to write web pages. You’d probably start by learning HTML which is the scripting language web pages are made up of. You’d move on to current and updated languages like XML and cascading style sheets.

For instance, whats the difference between it and web design.
I am doing a project and I I decided to research Graphic Design.
I have to research this project and then write a paper on it, so the more information the better.
Any information on being a Graphic Design, becoming a designer and any information or ideas for getting into the field would be much appreciated!_!

A graphic designer creates graphics—- usually for advertisements, games, etc. A web designer designs and builds webpages.
Graphic design is about creating logos, brochures, print advertise design, flyer design etc. otherwise web design is about designing web pages or website

I believe there is a huge difference between these two categories. I think designers do more of the visual appearance.

I consider the two to be related, but hardly the same thing. In my opinion, Graphic design fall on the more artistic side, while web design is more technical.

Many designers view graphic design and web design as one in the same. This is most prevalent with firms transitioning from print and multimedia design into web design. They think that web design and print design are siblings from the same family, like brother and sister. You would learn about color theory, typefaces, the relationship between design elements when placed on a page and just generally how to make things, either printed or displayed in another way, look appealing.

Graphics designing is totally about the the design of graphics layouts. Graphics designing includes many things like color combination, the relationship between design elements when placed on a page and just generally how to make things, either printed or displayed in another way, look appealing.
While the web designing also includes graphics designing but other skills. HTML, XHTML, Both server side and client side Scripting languages, how to write the content and overall layout of the web pages these all the concerns of a web designer.

Well, lol, graphic design would me physical, on paper, a billboard or something physically tangible,
and web design is online, thus ‘virtual’ and applied online.
But that raises a question… if you print out a website - is it web design or graphic design lol

The difference between web design and graphic design is the media or medium. Both can be tedious and time consuming due to the process. When it comes to designing, both requires the application of the Gestalt Principles of Design to get the clear and clean visual effect and how you want your reader to understand your design intention.
