If i understand correctly you need to learn the basics of CSS
Well if you already know HTML or X-HTML that will be a plus and maybe a drawback. ( I do not know how habits influence the learning curve because i am teaching myself html en CSS together for a short while now. ) Anyways i believe that it would be best if you just do the tutorials given by http://www.w3schools.com/
THeir you will find the strict teachings but its best to start with automated tutorials from what i understand you will be needing help soon enough when you cant get things done the way you want them. After the basic things have run out of merit.
