Spacing and positioning issues

Here are the issues I am running into (the two attached images highlight the problems here described):

1. Spacing between top banner and main content area. There should be 15px between the top logo and banner abd the main content area just like it happens in IE, but no matter what I do I cannot achieve the same effect in FF;

2. Floating images in FF do not allow the background color of the main content area to stretch vertically with the content;

3.In both IE and FF there is a gap between the main content and the bottom image. No matter how long the content is it should always connect to the bottom image so that it looks seemless without any white space inbetween.

4. The right column is positioned relatively. In IE the top always moves down as I add content to the main area. Is there a way to keep the top alignment fixed as it happens in FF? Is there a better way to position the right column and have it grow vertically with the main content area than the way I am doing it now?
