hello,
Web 1.0 was dial up. Web 2.0 is broadband.

Web 1.0 was IE. Web 2.0 is FireFox.

Web 1.0 was information. Web 2.0 is opinion.

Wait a minute, enough fun and games. Let’s get real and take off the rosy-colored glasses.

Web 1.0 was information. Web 2.0 is propaganda.

Web 1.0 was Microsoft. Web 2.0 is Google. Web 3.0 is ATT and NSA, working to protect us.

Web 1.0 was American. Web 2.0 is international. Web 3.0 is Chinese.

Web 1.0 was a tool. Web 2.0 is a lifestyle. Web 3.0 is an addiction.

Web 1.0 was a tool for the few. Web 2.0 is entertainment for the many. Web 3.0 is an opiate for the many.

Many of these experts believe that the Web 3.0 browser will act like a personal assistant. As you search the Web, the browser learns what you are interested in. The more you use the Web, the more your browser learns about you and the less specific you’ll need to be with your questions. Eventually you might be able to ask your browser open questions like “where should I go for lunch?” Your browser would consult its records of what you like and dislike, take into account your current location and then suggest a list of restaurants.

The concept of “Web 2.0” began with a conference brainstorming session between O’Reilly and MediaLive International. Dale Dougherty, web pioneer and O’Reilly VP, noted that far from having “crashed”, the web was more important than ever, with exciting new applications and sites popping up with surprising regularity. What’s more, the companies that had survived the collapse seemed to have some things in common. Could it be that the dot-com collapse marked some kind of turning point for the web, such that a call to action such as “Web 2.0” might make sense? We agreed that it did, and so the Web 2.0 Conference was born.

If it makes you feel better - mos people haven’t and it’s made up.  Someone wanted to sound smart. They could refer to the current state of development as Web 2.1 accurately enough I suppose in referencing instant social sites like twitter but they called them 3.0 to sound fancy event though they’re just an evolution of 2.0 which was an actual move to a new way of doing things.

Web 1.0 was never called Web 1.0 until someone decided to slap a nice buzzy wrapper around a bunch of existing technologies in an effort to give the illusion that the dot com bust was a result of technology failure and not business failure, leading the next wave of technologists to run around patting themselves on the back convincing one another that “Web 2.0″ is their creation and that it’s revolutionary.

Web 2.o is now the trend and this sort of site is an instant hit and goes viral..so it’s worth spending some time building 2.0 sites.
