Generally, stone, like brick, is currently used as a veneer or cosmetic covering of a home while wood framing is actually used for support. The exception to this is in older structures which use stone for support for the first and subsequent floors and wood beams only for flooring and roofing support(ie. castles and areas where wood is in short supply and, therefore, more expensive than locally quarried stone).
