The tradition of giving wedding guests a small gift as a token of appreciation for attending, goes back many centuries. Times were when wedding favors where just simple boxes of almonds or some other confection, but in recent years the favors market has exploded & now couples are faced with an ever increasing array of small treats & gifts to choose from.

Do it yourself
If your budget is tight, then giving out wedding favors may seem a step too far. But creating your own is an easy & inexpensive task & one which can be completed in an afternoon of evening with the help of your bridesmaids. Even for the least creative amongst you, they really are very easy.

Firstly, think about what you would like to give. If you are not very creative then don’t be too bold. Chocolates or candies in a pretty bag or box are very simple & easy to do.

Check out online favor stores or visit your local craft store where you will find a range of favor boxes & bags to choose from. Online favor stores will usually carry a line of confectionery too, which you can order in bulk if you need to. Ask the store for some guidance on how much you will need to allow per person to fill your choice of packaging.

You may think your boxes or bags look a bit plain, & adding some extra embellishment is really easy. Use some miniature paper roses, stickers or ribbon to add a little extra detail to your
Bridal Shower Favors. You can also make up some thank you tags on your computer which you can tie on with ribbon.

If you have chosen a color scheme for your wedding or a theme, try to coordinate your wedding favors with it. It will add unity & cohesion to the whole look.

Other easy wedding favor ideas include:
- Cookie cutters with a thank you tag or even a cookie recipe tied on.
- Scented candle tied with ribbon or raffia
- Cookies shaped & iced in your wedding style
- Miniature Photoframes which can double as place card holders
- An original poem, piece of prose or even an old family recipe, tied up like a scroll
- Origami shapes such as cranes which are said to be lucky

It is very easy to make your own wedding favors & can be very inexpensive too. Take some time out to think about them, you may surprise yourself with what you come up with!
