Design News:
Block Style Font
A font made by a young talented girl just 16 years of age. Julie Kapral is one young designer we should keep an eye on.

As much as I sometimes like to agree with you Mark, you’re so fucking wrong this time.
I’m 19, not a 40 year old virgin. The fact that she’s 16 doesn’t interest me sexually. The fact that she’s so enthusiastic and has already produced good quality work before she’s even hit college is so inspiring.
And yes, even I’m jealous. But instead of driving spiteful comments at others appreciating her ambition, I’m only inspired to work harder and hope that one day our paths might even cross, she seems like she’d be great to work with.
There are so many stale, competent, experienced designers that are happy to plod along in their comfort zones creating the same work, safe in the knowledge that they’ve reached a platform where they don’t need to push themselves anymore to impress anyone, or to better themselves. Personally I hope I never become one of these people. Enthusiasm like Julie’s is exactly what we need to evolve our industry, to keep creating new, exciting and creative work that will inspire others and better us all as designers and people.
And Tim, I don’t do this very often as it’s rarely constructive but:
her site is gay and so is she shess all haha and hehe young designers like that only give us real professional designers a bad name
You’re a prick.
“Her site is ‘gay’”... “us real professional designers”...
I can’t think of anything less professional. You conveniently left a link to your website which, in my opinion, sucks. In fact I’d go far as to say that Julie could give you a good run for you money.
my professor always used to tell us to sign up in support forums as a girl to get quick answers to our questions!
As a guy she prob wouldn’t even be news. It’s just this sexism you see on the internet
LOL - although Tim’s comment may have been inexpertly put, it does have a ring of .... common sense pragmatism?
How many of you designers cringe at these “$10 Logos!” graphics mills and these lame ‘contest sites’ or ‘spec work’? With the contest and ‘spec work’ invitations being exploitative and the $10 logo sites, a crass dilution and commoditization of your hard earned talent?
Is being a “designer” nothing more than throwing up a url and a png based font (and of course being 16, a girl, and probably cute)?
Decidedly moderate, run of the class skills are being touted as “exceptionally talented”
Although the font is made up of transparent png images, you can tell that she’ll be cooking up some professional fonts once she learns how.
And you could tell that, how? - oh! ‘cause she’s 16 and quite likely, cute!
Again, nice a little girl is entering the male geek dominated world of…well, anything! - The computer world is dominated by male geeks in just about all areas, but dont go overboard in praise just because we see a rare female appearing. Judge the work on it’s own merits -outside of the lens of age and sex. I would suggest she deserves to be treated with no less.
I agree the blog post itself is nothing special, but the fact that she’s 16 and has that quality of workblueoo
