Design News:

I’m sorry but Dreamweaver is dying

A commentary on the slow death of HTML editors as everything moves online.

I kind of think the author of the article is missing something. Yes with the advent of easy to use CMS it has become very easy to create websites without having to get into the nuts and bolts of it. However things will still need to be coded by hand, using the web interfaces with these applications will only get you so far.

you are absolutely right, Paul!
It’s almost like saying, with the advent of books, who needs pen and paper?

I think the author’s point is more that, with the way sites are built and deployed these days, we no longer need fancy, expensive HTML editors like DW. At the very least he’s saying there is no real justification to keep upgrading your DW to the latest and greatest anymore.

The article is utter drivel.

The article is not criticising dreamweaver per se…but the fact that source code it edited offline and uploaded to a particular web serverto publish it. The article suggests that this is a thing of the past!!!

As a web developer I can tell you that 90% of the time this is not a thing of the past, its the reality. The other 10% is for the clients that require a CMS system that they never use!!!!

YAWN! No use for Dreamweaver!!?? was that guy drunk? come on! yeah , there are plenty of cms’s out there that’ll get you a dynamic site up in no time, but custom designed sites will always be a reality, and an editor like Dreamweaver will always have a place in web site creation… I have Dreamweaver cs4 and it is killer!

I kind of see his point though. It’s not becoming unnecessary… it’s becoming less necessary for more people.  As time goes on, fewer people will need it because some will have migrated to a cms and/or blog.  Some folks who need an editor will use a less expensive editor.  And there’ll be people like me who will try to refrain from upgrading.  I ALWAYS want the new, but…must…hold…on…to…my…four…hundred…Dollars. Now that’s just plain crazy love my dream weaver but there are some other cool web app like Mozilla Bespin or Firefox extentions I used to replace dream weaver for testing live on page like Firebug, Web Developer, and others.

There are so many open source CMS that can be used to power up a site, but as a web developer and designer I still used dreamweaver to create layout and themes then drop it to the CMS template directory. So I can say still it’s not the end of Dreamweaver at all.

Give please. When we lose one we love, our bitterest tears are called forth by the memory of hours when we loved not enough.
I am from Herzegovina and learning to write in English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: “Search airports worldwide for the cheapest airfare.”

Thank you so much for your future answers :-).  Elden.
