Site Layout Tips

It's a good read to get a general understanding, but I'm absolutely disgusted at the comments made about Freelance Designers there, opinions?

Comments (21)

I am sick of people dissing freelance designers like this, it’s really bad and just makes me feel sick to my stomach.

I DO NOT have my phone #‘s on my page, over 70 satisfied clients this year so far, that’s ridiculous assuming all freelancers without personal contact info are scammers or not trust worthy? What’s more fucked up really is the statement about younger designers there.

Retarded section otherwise the rest is somewhat useful. Im sorry, this isn’t the best news worthy post but im fuming at their gayness, they’re an authority site and should watch what they say and how they say it. So wrong.

You’re right Moni, that is a little biased. They seem to have it against freelance designers for sure,Their points are not really that valid but a detailed contact page does help a designer build trust with clients, calling clients helps too but these guys went about it the wrong way i must admit.

I remember Marcus Tandler of mediadonis.net commenting on his seofm site about watshit and how they slammed him for cookie stuffing, they sure do care about people, are none profit too, but I think that’s where abuse of power comes into play know what I mean?

When there’s profanity in the site title, you know they have a bad attitude. I’m a freelancer, and yes it bothers me when people level unfair generalizations at us. However, in all criticism is a tiny grain of salt. They’re dead wrong about some freelancers, yet what they say is probably conditioned by some truth. In other words, let’s all work to protect the integrity of our trade… that their mouths may be stopped.

Moni, just got an update from your blog, had a read and I do agree with them here. A lot of new designers are claiming to be professionals and the get help by ripping designs and claiming it as their own.

Some clients end up getting a ripped template with their content slapped in there sometimes, and they’re the ones that get into trouble. I agree though, the manner in which they went about it was somewhat uncalled for, but it is a really big issue.

Logos for example are always getting ripped off LogoSauce, LogoPond and other related sites, DeviantArt is also a target to graphic thieves. Thanks for bringing this topic up though, the bashing of freelances has been an on going struggle for some time, which in truth makes a talented honest designers life harder.

WHY did you even give these people the honor of a news post on CSSDRIVE, Noni??

Shame on them, and on YOU TOO!

1/10 for this “News Post”, “Website”, and “poster”

It is so sad that we get bombarded with false accusations such as this, but on the flip side, so many so called freelancers today are doing nothing but making it harder for us to gain a clients trust. I do provide a cellular # as well as a contact form, not an address by any means, but that’s only because I find it easier to commute with a client by phone, they sometimes have a hard time explaining what they want through email.

A lot of designers simply have a contact form, if the client, after the initial contact is still interested, a designer then shares his/her number privately, which is a perfectly normal practice too. Thanks for the update on this moni although i agree with Mark, you should have maybe taken it to the forum, but oh well, suppose this goes to show the kind of image we portray sometimes. We really should, as Brandon suggested, work harder to turn this around. It effects all of us.

I hesitated first Mark, but this is really not just about this site or their post, i used it as an example as their are many out there bashing freelancers, this one just had a little tinny bit of productive content so i used it.

It’s really just a point to make to people, a reminder to designers even I guess. I absolutely accept. I accept your 1/10, real sorry i had to post this but then again i just had to, couldn’t help it. I read on DP and DNF and other sites how desigenrs are scamming people and i think, these people arnt designers though! that should be known.

Props for bringing it up Moni, those guys though at that site are just angry at life and lash out at almost anyone. They got shoemoney before too which was so sad.

Mark, why not link to thing like this? It effects us freelancers as much as clients you know. Maybe moni should have written about it and maybe linked to that but I like this a lot, at the end of the day people speaking negatively about us freelancers effects all us designers.

hmmm , point taken.

Although the site was mostly bullshit, fact is, a lot of the statements burn because there may be a bit of truth. I was just offended by a) the “absolute” terms of the article: “ALL” freelancers are not lazy crooks, and b) the site design was just fucking awful and it was obvious to me that the poorly structured article was just TROLLING. Deliberately inflammatory words designed to get a response and some attention, wholly undeserved!

with all that said, I would NOT reference this asshole’s site/blog/turd, but would instead spend a few minutes googling for ANOTHER site that said something similar maybe, but with more f*king INTELLIGENCE AND BALANCE to it and post THAT!
lol /rant

Like Mark I don’t think these people deserved a news slot but I have to hand it to you Moni for thinking outside the box and trying to change up the news post styles. Noura just slapped another best 5000 something of something there, so almost anything different to that is ok with me.

This does bring up some good issues though, how or what designers should do to strengthen the trust between them and clients.
